PCS Post-Tension Facility Now Operational

Santa Fe Springs, CA --- Pacific Coast Steel is excited to announce the opening of the company's first post-tensioning fabrication facility which opened in November 2008. The new facility is located in Santa Fe Springs, California and is the home base to where the experienced PCS staff produces and supplies the post-tension cables to many of the PCS projects around the Western U.S.

The facility employs six fabrication workers who produce the post-tension cable and five detailers who review the structural architectural drawings and create the shop drawings. Todd Stevens (Contracting Manager) and David Scurlock (Fabrication Operations Manager) oversee the facility and charged with the designing, building, staffing and operating of all post-tension operations.

Currently, the PCS Post-Tension Division has 26 projects spanning throughout California, Washington, Oregon, Nevada and Utah. Most notable projects include the McCarran International Airport Parking Structure (NV), City Creek Parking Structure (UT) and NoHo Commons Office Building/Parking Structure (CA).

Snowy Winter Doesn't Deter Growth At PCS Washington

Auburn, WA --- Amidst record low temperatures and a myriad of snow storms, PCS Washington continues to gain momentum. Since the division opened at the end of 2007, PCS has secured a variety of high-profile projects in the Pacific Northwest including Brightwater WWTP, Virginia Mason Hospital Expansion, SeaTac Parking Structure and YMCA (Newcastle).

PCS Washington has an 110,000 square foot fabrication facility located in Auburn, which enables Pacific Coast Steel to service Washington, Oregon and Alaska.

Brightwater Project Right On Schedule

Woodinville, WA --- Pacific Coast Steel (PCS) has teamed with Kiewit Pacific Corporation on a $168 million project to build a wastewater treatment plant in King County, a suburb located just Northeast of Seattle. PCS has currently placed 20% of the project and is scheduled for completion by May 2010. PCS has installed over 670 tons with our portion of the work valued at $4.8 million.

PCS has an average crew size of nine dedicated to the Brightwater Project, led by Foreman Chris Walker. The PCS crew was recgonized for their diligent work when Kiewit Pacific awarded their Quality Crew of the Month to Chris Walker and team.

The overall project, estimated by Robert Punsalan from the PCS San Diego office, will include a treatment plant, conveyance, and marine outfall. The plant design will integrate landscape, architecture, wildlife habitat, engineering, art and education. The goal is to enhance the local community and add wastewater treatment capacity for the region.

$25 Million Treatment Plant Underway

Blaine, WA --- Pacific Coast Steel (PCS) and Stellar J Corporation broke ground on the Lighthouse Point Water Reclamation Facility May 29, a project totaling over $25 million. PCS will begin their installation of the 460 ton rebar project in September 2008 and anticipates concrete completion by February 2009. The estimating for this project was conducted by Robert Punsalan from the PCS San DIego office.

The current plant processes half a million gallons of wastewater a day for Blaine's population of 4,650. The new plant will be able to process up to 3.1 million gallons per day, enough to support a population of 11,000

Work on the Lighthouse Point Project is scheduled to finish May 2010.

Major Expansion Set For Arizona Highway

Phoenix, AZ --- Pacific Coast Steel (PCS) and Pulice Construction began work on an $80 million expansion project to the Ehrenberg/Phoenix I-10 Highway. The Ehrenberg Project is a $4.6 million task estimated at over 6,500 tons of work.

PCS has an average daily crew of 20 people and has approximately 35% of the project completed. The PCS crew's main objective is to widen ten bridges along the Ehrenberg Highway. The project is tentatively set for completion in the third quarter of 2009.

PCS Announced the Conclusion of the Purchase of Century Steel Inc./Century Reinforcing Inc.

Pacific Coast Steel (PCS) announced the conclusion of the purchase of Century Steel, Inc./Century Reinforcing, Inc., the newly expanded PCS will have nearly 2,250 employees, including over 1,800 field ironworkers, making it the largest reinforcing steel subcontractor in the Western United States.  PCS will expand from 8 offices to 15, encompassing 10 states and will operate ten reinforcing steel fabrication facilities and two structural steel facilities with annual capacity in excess of 600,000 tons.

Eric Benson, PCS’s President and CEO, said “This transaction combines two very solid, well-run companies.  By bringing together our collective resources it will allow us to continue our tradition of superior customer service and enable us to service those customers across an even broader geographic footprint.”

Todd Leany will take on his new role as Executive Vice President, with primary responsibilities for the Nevada, Utah and New Mexico reinforcing and steel operations.  Mr. Leany commented “This is an exciting opportunity for both our employees and customers.”
